The best way to send information obtained through html form inputs?

Hello, I am trying to use html forms to place on my site that will require the user to place information inside the fields and press "submit" button. Then I want an email sent to me. After doing some research, I've found that CGI scripts are good for this, but most pages about this are old (like 2002-2005) and I was wondering are these still the easiest ways to do this?

Also, I use php for my site so if php can be used, please point me in the right direction. Thanks for all help.
