The best race track you have ever been.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure Laguna is nice on its own as a track but when you compare it to the world standard which it is held against now due to MotoGP, it is nowhere close to any other circuit on the calendar. Blame it on America's preoccupation with NASCRAP and circular driving for the lack of development of roadracing courses, but the cause does not take away the the truth of the fact that Laguna as a whole is not world class.

Hi,

Best tracks I've ever ridden... Monza, Paul Ricard, old Assen and old Spa..

If I had to choose between those... mmm... Monza... biggest grin! Fastest.... Spa for sure. Still the fastest GP lap ever. Sheene averaged 134mph in the 70's!

Hi all,

Done a few in the UK bit not on my 1098, got it in Dec but hopefully riding it at Cartagena in Spain for the 1st time in late Feb.

Oulton Park, UK. Amazing the UK equivalent of Laguna i guess, hills, banked turns blind crests and not really a straight to speak of.

Cadwell park, UK. THE most challenging circuit in the UK and pretty dangerous with very little run off. A wooded section, fast blind double apex right hander and 160MPH straight(kind of!) but must be the only circuit with a jump!

Laguna Seca is a cool track, you just can't appreciate the corkscrew until you've crapped your pants at the top of it thinking about how you're about to crash! I was more impressed with Miller Motorsports Park though as far as the "presence" of the facility being world-class. As far as just fun to ride on, not necessarily world-class facilities, there are some GREAT tracks in the middle of the country where us Midwesterners race. I have had a blast riding at Grattan in Michigan, even though it's old and the pavement was pretty bad when I was there, and at Hallett in Oklahoma, both tracks with a lot of elevation change and lots of fun corners. My "home" tracks of Mid-America Motorplex and Motorsports Park Hastings are like an old pair of shoes, I could lap with my eyes closed if necessary (or with a fogged over visor in the rain, which HAS happened) so I don't think about them much, but other people have commented that they're both fun layouts for not having any elevation change.

While I am Italian and my home is pretty close to Monza I live in the USA and it would really be a dream to take my two babies (F4 1000 and Desmosedici) to such a track....so I leave the dreams to whomever can make them real and I will stick to VIR, Roeb. Road, and CMP Kershaw....sob

The only track I have been on is NHIS Loudon NH. Track is very tight and technical.
It was OK on my old 748, that I raced but the most fun I've had out there was on my Honda RS125. Just a bike you can almost do no wrong on.

Hey Phil, what does "the king of highside" mean? did you experience a few of those? If so, did you come out ok every time from them? Of course you are here to tell about them so I guess it could have been worse...but tell us about them...Ciao

I have Highsided a few bikes an ex500, R6 and a honda rs 125 basiclly everything I have race but my 748.

All the highsides were minor except for my highside in turn ten at NHIS. This highside would have even made any GP pro cringe. Lost traction to rear tire over bump, I cranked the throttle wide open trying to make it a little low side but when it caught traction the motor bogged down and made it a huge highside. I went from no traction to full traction and spit me off like a rag doll. I flipped butt over tea kettle about 8 feet up. The landing was the worst thing I have ever felt. I landed flat on my behind which bruised internal soft stuff, compression fracture of my T6, Broken heel, and three broken ribs with a lasarated(sp) lung. A few weeks in bed and I was back to work and back on the track the next season.

Phil,

You are indeed the king of highsides!

18 months ago I had a highside on my SP1 about 70mph at Croft in the UK.

I thankfully don't remember the landing as i landed on my head/shoulder and knocked myself out for about 2 mins and came round after my helmet had been removed by a medic as was choking me. The trip to hospital immobilised on a back board was panic inducing but understandable. Lots of x-rays later the result was a broken collarbone and four ribs.

I feel I was really lucky after reading your tale!

Glad you
