Why is this mediocre actress in practically every single movie or considered for all them?

I find her to be one of the most wooden actresses I've seen in a movie, and I think better actresses could handle the material she is given. She suited Lost In Translation because the script was just as bad as her acting skills.

Never underestimate the appeal of the 'girl next door' quality. There are several A list actresses whose talents are fairly average, but they have that 'certain something' that makes them more believeable in a particular role than someone who is widely considered stunningly attractive and a powerful actress. Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts are two that have this quality that spring to mind. No-one would believe in the character in, say, LIT, The Girl Next Door or the one where she dates the boss's son if they were played by Halle Berry or Reese Witherspoon. SJ treaRAB the fine balance between being good enough to keep her in work, but still retaining this air of down-to-earthness.
