The Andromeda Strain

With nothing better to do I started watching this 2-part TV movie on Sky last night and I was pleasantly surprised.

Okay, the original was a classic but this new version has it's merits too as it's updated to relate to the current world political climate with the fear of terrorism from sources unknown.

For me it's reminiscent of 'The Burning Zone' (the 90s Scifi series) but on a greater scale. Certainly makes you realise how fragile our existence is. The concluding part is on tonight.

Anywone else watching it?

The original film was great , but I gave this a miss.
Most films which boast the invovlement of Tony Scott,I tend to give a miss.

It's watchable but adding a lot of contemporary trappings, dodgy CGI and a truly awful performance from Christa Miller, pretty much wrecks Michael Crichton's streamlined original story.
Robert Wise's version, although obviously a bit dated, is still way out in front.

I'm halfway through and I think it's a perfectly serviceable version with a few twists and updates on the original.

I thought it was abysmal. Unnecessary changes were made to the original story and crucial elements (such as the entry of the team into the Wildfire facility and the work involved with identification of the Andromeda Strain itself) were glossed over.
The original is among my favourite Sci-Fi movies.
