The amityville horror.

I bought the original book many years ago and was very relieved to find out that the houseowners colluded with Jay Anson in making up the tale to get themselves out of debt (this dodge also worked for Travis Walton's boss in Fire in the Sky). The only truth in Amityville is that a dreadful murder did take place. The third film in 3D was pretty creepy though.
 
isnt there about a million amityville films?? and doesnt it end up in a lamp or something rediculous. I think the first one is the only half decent one out of the collection and even that is more hollywood than it is truth.
 
The new movie has already been re-cut once to gain an R rating for american audiences

the version that we will get to see will most likley be the same as the american R rated version.
 
There isn't much truth in The Amityville Horror anyway but you're right about the later films; they're just cheap tv movie junk. The evil spirit does and up in a lamp and also a doll's house: desperate stuff.
 
The rating will 100% be (15) in the UK because it is (R) in the States.

The only movies in the UK today that get rated (18) from a US (R) rating are movies that have ALOT of graphic violence, sexual content and bad language in them, The Amityville Horror REMAKE does NOT, it's much more of a psychological thriller then it is a full-blown horror movie.

The ORIGINAL still carries a (18) certificate in the UK today but this is only because it was rated before the BBFC changed their certificate agreements, it will most likely be re-rated in the near future carrying a (15) certificate just like a large number of other previously rated (18) movies that are now carrying a (15) certificate.

If the ORIGINAL had been released today it would have been given a (15) rating.
 
I'll probably go to see this out of interest but am getting really annoyed with all these re-makes. Are there no original ideas left - can't they see that 'if something ain't broke don't fix it.'

Have heard they are re-making Back to the Future - they must be having a giraffe!
 
Maybe as the BBFC is much more leinent these days we will get the uncut version and thus an '18'

Texas Chainsaw Massacre III had a cut 'R' version and an uncut version both orginally rejected for a cinema certificate by the BBFC. Now the completely uncut version has been given an 18 for video! Shows how times have changed.

Either way they are cutting it fine. It's out soon and it's still not got a cert on the BBFC website.
 
Although it is by the team who remade The Texas Chainsaw Massacre recently (which was better than expected) I'm afraid that The Amityville Horror remake doesn't work out so well. It has a few creepy moments but it just feels as if they're going through the motions - works better as a thriller than a horror. They have Philip Baker Hall in the Rod Steiger priest role but he is barely in it, sadly. The best thing about the first for my money was the creepy music.
 
The original still scares me witless - all I have to do is hear the theme and I'm freaking out.

Kinda stupid of me to buy the DVD then eh
