The aluminum under panel on my jeep came loose. Are these critical, it seems they don't

do much and i don't ? want to replace. Do you know if this is something that needs to be replaced? It was about a 4 ft section above the muffler.
 
If it is a thin aluminum part it is a heat shield. You may or may not need to replace it. You need to look and evaluate what it is protecting from heat. Many times, it is protecting the interior from heat coming off of the exhaust.

If it were a skid plate, it would be a heavy steel part. This would only need to be replaced if you use your Jeep for off roading.
 
that would be called the heat shield for the exhaust.at the catalytic converter forward they must be replaced,behind the cat back to muffler they can be removed without any problems.
 
what part is it. is it the skid plate? cause it really dont do anything but you can put a blot in it to keep it on. unless you go off road then you may wanna keep it on.
