OK, I am no rookie, so I'd like to get some informed opinions on this topic.
I am not normally given to conspiracy theories, but I have come to think (like Penn & Teller) that a lot of what we are being told by retailers of HSFs is "Bulls**t!"
First off, seeing as how every single CPU temp. monitoring software program is based on a figure (Tj max) that not even Intel or AMD releases. Please, don't tell me I am wrong, I have read Intel's most recent "white paper" on the topic...and they categorically state that Tj max is not a single static figure from model to model, or even within modest, or even throughout the temp. spectrum of any chip. So, basically, every single CPU temp. monitoring program is little more than an (somewhat) educated guess. Couple this with the fact that most onboard CPU sensors are just plain awful (just ask Intel).
Anyway, it is my thought that neither Intel, nor AMD are stupid and basing their business on a bad business model...which means that they do not want thousands of heat related RMAs. So, despite all the talk about Zalman this and Xigmatek that, and "Intel HSFs suck, why on Earth would someone sell a CPU with an unconditional 3-year guarantee that they had set up to fail?
I have a policy when I buy my new CPUs...I run a 24-hour PRIME95 Small FFT...which stresses your entire system beyond anything you will ever do to it...and, if it gets zero fails and no BSODs, I just run it and let Intel worry about RMAs. HINT: This is for stock settings...not for insane 30% OCs and stupid VCore boosts!
So, even though, I use aftermarket HSFs, I have always wondered if their makers aren't laughing all the way to the bank.
BTW, I have never had a heat related BSOD or failure...and I have been building stuff since my first IMSAI 8080...and I use my computers HARD!
Thoughts?
Please give me your opinions on this issue. Thanks...and sorry for the length of the post. It is NOT meant to be a rant, just a question I have had for a very long time now.
Damn! That shoud say "within models," not "within modest." Yggdrasil is a typing doofus!
...and that should say "should," not "shold." LMAO
