A lot of irreverence came about in the sixties. I believe it was the beginning of the downfall of our society. Programmes like That was the Week that Was, on the television insulted institutions and individuals and this had never happened previously. David Frost was responsible for much of it. There was also the anti-war stuff, mainly sung by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Youth in the 1960s suddenly became very involved in political views of one sort or the other.

It was on the political map the birth of free thinking, youth culture, promiscuity,
fashion
sexual liberation
the development of pop & rock music culture
organised youth and student movements

also research the various sets of political and philosophical ideas that were formed in the 60's
