Thalassemia Minor affects martial arts?

Ive done crazy sports all my life gymnastics, cross country, ect. Its been on and off. I'm doing muay thai now and I'd like to stick with it for a while. I was wondering if the Iron palm might be bad for my bones. I supposedly have weaker bones than average people. Supposedly everything about me is just....weaker. I am progressing well in iron palm but for some reason, my mother keeps telling me that I cant be doing a sport like this. I dont run out of breath or oxygen. I also heard that i'm supposed to feel pain more than regular people. Idk if these claims are true. I'm not even sure if i had to work twice as hard as regular people to get to where I am now or if they feel less pain than i do.
Can i condition myself physically to not have the adverse effects of thalassemia? If possible, have i actually managed to overcome it without me noticing? I want some real doctors helping me out on this one. I know most of you dont recommend MA but just try to help me out here. Anything I should be eating? My trainer tells me to eat 6 meals a day.

I'm 18 now and i used to get picked on A LOT. Theres no way I'll be quitting MA.
