text message limit

I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck sending over 160 characters in a text message?.

The only phone I've been able to do this with was the 6700,but my EnV and u740 do not want to send a message if it's over 150 characters.

there may be settings in the different phones to allow it, but you are not actually sending more characters in one message...it is allowing you to compile multiple messages within one...i use a mogul and i can type as many characters as i want, but the message is still broken up and sent as multiple messages...

Yeah that's what I meant, my bad. I'm not articulate enough to explain what I'm trying to say.... My env won't allow me to send multiple messages like that.. In fact no phone has allowed me to send multiple messages like that except 6700

it's not something that i'd spend the time on, but you could look for a setting somewhere to change...fact of the matter is that it's reall not worth the effort and more so that i don't have the answer.

This is a limit within the IS-2000 spec, and is a carryover from the IS-95 spec. It is also set this way for interoperability.

You, the editorial you, would be unhappy if the SMS platform was unable to route and deliver your messages.

Phones may span messages, such as the Q does, but that is in the phone and is no different than sending multiple messages, the software just makes life easier.

Yeah, it's true that the phone is just sending multiple texts, but sometimes it makes it a ton easier if i can go ahead and get it all wrote out in one sitting instead of getting 149 characters, send, getting 149 characters, send, etc etc.

But it seems like there's no solution and that if I want that "feature" i should stick with a PDA, as they seem to be the only ones capable of doing it.
