Is the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 a remake or is it a prequal of sorts?

And another thing, my mates have seen it and they mention some footage at the end where Leatherface jumps out and kills the two policemen. Is this footage real or not, they say it is but this would mean that there was such a person as Leatherface. My argument was that the film is based on an American serial killer called Ed Gein who wore his victims skin as his own, anyone shed any light on this arguement.

Thanks :) :) :) :)

It is a remake of the original, and I think it is a very good one. I saw it ages ago when I 'aquired' a copy but I will definately be heading out to buy it properly soon. :)

yea i herd its a remake, i watched it last night and damm its very very good, i have not seen the original but if it lives up the the re-make its a excelent film.

9/10 for me

Deffo a remake. i have seen the original. It is based on a serial killer who took the skin from bodies and made things with it (including a table using leg bones for table legs!) he even stole skin from bodies that he exhumed (he didn't kill those ones), you could be right about the name, I can't really remember to be sure. there is loaRAB of info about him on the special edition dvd though.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is based upon Ed Gein (loosely) and the footage with the cop killing is not real.

Its a remake.

BTW the Buffalo Bill character in the Silence of the Lambs is also loosely based upon Ed Gein.
