Test strips, please help?

I bought 5 in 1 test strips...it tests for pH, Nitrate, Nitrite, Hardness, and Alkalinity...can i use them if they don't have ammonia on them? I don't see ammonia, is ammonia alkalinity?
P.S. This is for cycling a 20 gallon aquarium. I'm doing a fishless cycle.

Hi,

Unfortnately many test kits don't have ammonia on them, you'll have to look in your LFS for one that has as you really need it when performing a fishless cycle - infact its essential!

Two years ago I sent Tetra an e-mail asking if they are going to launch a strip test kit which also tests for ammonia, they replied and told me that they do not intend to introduce such a test kit.

However API have recently launched an individual strip test kit for ammonia, but it is fairly expensive.

For the greatest accuracy I prefer to use liquid test kits, specifically those from the TMC salifert and API ranges. Most liquid master test kits include test reagents for ammonia.
