I'm doing a Science Research paper on "Death with Dignity." For one of my facts, I wanted to use Terri Schiavo's medical bill amount. I know, it sounds rude, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet. Help?

I doubt that that information would be given out freely unless it was made public knowledge through and interview or news piece. Your best bet would be to talk to a medical professional and ask for a rough estimate. Be ready with facts so as to get a more accurate number.

Margarita's advice is sound. Provide a list of what you know (or assume) was done to keep Terry alive and then get an estimate of the cost for each procedure. I would recommend that you talk to someone in medical billing versus a doctor.

I do hope you are including in your paper the questionable areas in her case that made it such a national issue, i.e., deciding on withholding nutrition without a medical directive from the patient to that effect, the possible underlying agenda of the husband in exercising his right as next of kin (by marriage) to make decisions on her behalf, etc.

Just so you understand, I AM an advocate for euthanasia, but I also recognize that there is TREMENDOUS potential for abuse. There were many questions surrounding the Schiavo case. The media focused on her quality-of-life and tried (fairly successfully) to make that the primary issue. With a few exceptions, they virtually ignored the agendas of those who were making... or trying to make... decisions on her behalf. THAT is where the real story is in this case.
