Termi (70mm) full exhaust tech question

I'm a new member and looking for 1098 tech answer:
I recently purchased my '08 1098 and a full Termi Exhaust system for the 1098 - I called 4 Duc shops and got some mixed answers and am hoping for some clearification from 1098 owners/techs experiences about my dilema.

Here is my question - install and dial in the full Termi system after the break-in period (600+miles) by Duc Dealer just as I originally thought I should
OR
install the full Termi minus new ECU but install a Power Commander for better overall performance and better street rideability.

The 2nd opinion came from a respected Duc shop that races/modifies ducs and that has performed it on other bikes w/ great success (I was told that I could sell the race ECU on ebay and to keep the stock ECU and not to worry about O2 signal, etc, etc).

What are your thoughts???
Thanx

I had my 70mm system installed on my Tricolore from new and have run 4,000+ miles without problems. I also have a friend that has done the same on his 1098S and has done over 5,000 miles without problem.

BTW, I think that you'll find that if you have the 70mm system with a Power Commander and the stock ECU, the power Commander will not work below 5,250 rpm.

I would keep the race ECU for now. I would also install one of Dan Kyle's PC III's. The problem you're going to run into is that with the stock ECU/O2 sensor I don't think you can map below 5200 rpm which is where the Termi ECU is the most off. If the shop you mentioned has had such good luck doing it their way then ask them for a Dyno sheet on one they've done. Words mean nothing and "race shops" are a dime a dozen. If you can't see the numbers then I'd really look at putting in the race ECU and one of Dan's PC III's. He maps those things on the Dyno and they're mapped individually for each cylinder. Plus he appears to be a genuinely decent and nice guy and that counts. Trust me on that.

In my opinion, you can get a power commander anywhere, why limit yourself to one place that sells them that may or may not be in your area, afterall if you install a pc3 you are probably going to want to have it mapped specifically to your bike. Another option is if you are looking to optimise your bike you may want to consider looking into the Nemesis ECU. This replaces the stock or race ecu whichever you have. You do not need a power commander in this case. The Nemesis is much more adjustable than the pc3. Also, the company that makes the Nemesis is closely tied to Magnet Marelli who made the stock ecu.

thanx for the intel,

to piggyback on my original message - called more shops in other states and all agree to go w/ the race (70mm) ECU....

but all stores agreed on the break-in part before installing the new system, so they can red line and adjust mixtures on the dyno - how did you red-line on dynos w/out the break-in miles, (all shops seemed to want atleast 600+ miles on the bike, before they would do it)

thanx again

Before you install the 70 mm system get it ceramic coated for about $160: http://www.performancecoatings.com/
This makes all the difference for heat problems.

Wwahl!!

Great timing....I'm actually still searching for companies to send by pipes for coating.. I'm trying to decide between Jet-Hot, High-Performance Coatings or Performance Coatings. Can you post some more pics of your bike for all of us to see, PLEASE The one you have in your album doesn't provide a good view of your pipes!!

ShadowMan,

I agree with installing the Race ECU, afterall the full exhaust kit comes with it. I don't agree with the break-in part. I bought my 's' and had the full system installed at prep. I have no issues and my bike runs great. I didn't baby it the first 1000km (600 miles) either. It couldn't run better....

GSReeves,

I do not buy stuff for my bike lightly. Unless it has been proven to me that it will be a positive addition, or subtraction, I see no point. In my opinion the race ECU is sorely lacking in it's fuel delivery function. I installed the PCIII to bypass and, hopefully, correct that. I bought the PC from Kyle because (a) he has done extensive testing and mapping on a bike with the same components as mine and has hard figures to back up his claims and (b) he has an impeccable reputation. I have this little quirk that one is buying the seller as well as the part. There are two potential negatives (if you can call them that) to this transaction. No two engines are exactly the same, nor exhaust, nor intake tract etc. His altitude and climate are different than mine. So in theory his maps may not be ideal for my engine. But they're better than what that race ECU puts out and can be adjusted without the need for $12,000 whiz bang diagnostic tools. It's all I want. The simplest method of achieving one's goal is, for me anyway, the best.

As for this Nemesis unit. Apparently not only will it allow you to vary every variable there is but also mow the lawn and do the dishes. That's just too high tech for me and being a tweaker it would have me fiddling with it constantly which I do not wish to do anymore. I've been down the Weber "suck it and see" road and don't wish to repeat the trip.

I'll attach a couple of photos that should show the ceramic coating adequately. Performance Coating does nice work. What a major difference it makes!
