I'm 16 and i've been playing sports all my life, i've played baseball since i was 6 and basketball and football when i was younger.

Currently i'm running track and playing baseball for my highschool, but i'm starting to think that a sport like tennis would be perfect for my quickness and arm strength.

My good friend is on the varsity tennis team at school and suggested that i try it next year, and he is taking me to play for the first time in two days, is it a hard sport to pick up for somebody who is athletic? What are some pointers to help me for my first time? (i don't know what kind of racket i'll be using, i'll be using the extra one he has)

thanks, any advice would be awesome.

From what you have described mate, it shouldn't be too difficult. Your obviously very sporty and it shouldn't be hard to grasp. However do not play it for building arm strength, that takes months of coninuous playing over long periods of time. You should really be playing it for enjoyment, however I do agree with you that it increases you speed and agility. Have a go, if you like then keep it up, but if you don't drop it cause you will just get more and more frustrated.

For an athletic person, it shouldn't be as difficult as the 1st answerer described it. Already being a sports person, you learn quickly and understand basics very well.

It shouldn't take very long for you to pick it up, but if you're serious about tennis then I would recommend practicing with your friend and take lessons.

tennis is not so physical, it is a sissy sport, a girl sport. if u r a real athlete, u shld try boxing, basketball or billiards.

Yes. It is a HARD sport. If you want to be good at it, you have to start at younger than 16 years old. There are already people turning pro at that age. I can't really say what's so hard about it, but it's just different from other sports.
