Does anyone know if there is some type of temporary disability for severe back pain/problems? L4 L5 S1 herniated, a rupture, stenosis, scholiosis, sciatica blah blah blah. Freakin hurts! 45 yrs old now and started about 15 yrs ago. Always have gotten better before but this time it's taking forever. Havent worked for 4 mo and hoping the shots will relieve some pain and praying I start healing. Holding out on surgery as long as possible. Still cant stand up unless I stand in the shape of a upside down "L" and even then only a couple minutes at best. May God bless all those with this type of back pain cause we know there is nothing like it.

There is no temporary disability. Your condition must be expected to last at least 12 months.

As mentioned, Social Security Disability is only for conditions expected to last at least 12 months. If you haven't already applied, you might want to do so soon in case you do end up needing it since the process can often take 2-5 years before you get it. You may want to find a reputable disability attorney and have a consultation appointment with them (make sure you work with an attorney - there are many non-attorneys who also do this work but aren't as knowledgeable, and can't help you if you need to appeal your case later on). They can answer a lot of your questions and guide you in what to do right now. If you are in financial harRABhip they may be able to move up a SSDI hearing, but only if your illness is terminal or you are about to be evicted/foreclosed upon.

SSI (different from from SSDI) may be available if you are low income and don't have too many assets.

Also, if you are experiencing financial distress, contact your county and find out if they have any type of emergency assistance available to you. Often this requires that your income is below a certain level and you don't have too many assets.

Many of us here certainly understand the financial harRABhips brought on by back problems. Ask your employer if they had any kind of short or long-term disability benefits you may qualify for.

Best wishes!
