Tell me how to get a suzuki GS500F?

I have a 2003 Corolla. Its paid off, runs good, some dings and scratches...

I will be taking a motorcycle class for certification, etc.
I want a Suzuki GS500F.
Not sure what year...2004, or 2006...
But what I'm asking is for direction.

What do I need to do?
Can I trade?
Do I need to sell my Corolla first? (I know about checking out Kelly Blue Book for my car's value)
What do I need to watch out for?
What do I NOT want during the trade, sell/purchase, etc?

Irrelevant details:
I'm 5'3, I've driven stick only a little bit.
27 yrs old...no longer a speed crazy. I'm sick of getting speeding tickets, Its out of my system.
None of those factors matter but just in case you ask...I'm determined to get a bike.

You will most likely be purchasing the bike from a private party, and it may take some time to find one of these in good shape.

So, you'll need to sell your car. This is good anyway, since you'll get much less as a trade in than you would selling outright.

Even if you could get a used GS at the dealership, they won't take a car as trade in - unless by some weird twist the motorcycle dealership is connected to a car dealer also (very rare).

If you have a friend who is knowledgeable about bikes, take them along when you're looking, they'll know what to watch for.

Two things that may change your mind about this course of action.

First, if you've had some speeding tickets in the last few years, I'd strongly suggest checking with your insurance company to see how much insurance will cost for the GS. You may be unpleasantly surprised.

Second, if you REALLY LOVE the GS, you may not want it to be your first bike. Guaranteed you will drop your first bike at least once. It's better if it's just a little thrasher bike rather than your dream machine - especially one with expensive full-fairing bodywork.
