Teflon on the oil drain plug?

if anything it will interfear with the proper seal of the o ring,and when the local dealer did their first and last change on mine i spent over an hour cleaning that crap so the ring would seat.i can only wonder how much of that stuff is in my oil.had to explaine to some service manager that it caused the leak and didnt prevent it.
 
I would never use teflon tape were you have a chance of the tape getting into oil passages or check valves or relief valves. I do a lot of repairs on hdy. systems and teflon tape is a big no no.
 
there's no need to use anything on the threads. the rubber "O" ring is what seals the drain plug. i do use teflon tape on the threads just for peace of mind, thinking that it may prevent loosening through vibration, although it's not needed.
 
It may or may not be needed for the drain plug with an o-ring, but my '03 would leak without using a little paste on the threads. The key is to use it sparingly on the outer edge of threads. I don't se how anyone can say that teflon tape and paste are for lubricating threads and not for sealing purposes. Thread some pipe joints together with oil and see how many leak.
 
Teflon tape is meant for NTP pipes threads to help seal, and prevent disimilar metals from corroding eachother.
The drain plug is not "conical", so the rubber O-ring is the only sealing surface componant. Just be sure it is clean when re-inserting; ie, no chips or dirt, etc.
You might not change the O-ring every at every service, but it doesn't hurt. They become brittle and will split when torqued...
You'll find this out 70 miles into a 300 mile trip.

Just sayin...
 
No tape or paste. If the o-ring is torn or damaged, I change it. If not, clean it, put a dab of fresh oil on it and back in it goes. I never had an issue with any holes.
