alright so i'm starting to dj and i really need to expand my knowledge of this music. i'm looking for recommendations of what/who you think i'd like. here's a few artists i'm into, so maybe you can base suggestions on that.

infected mushroom
digitalism
pendulum
global deejays
justice
daft punk
boys noize
mstrkrft

basically, music with energy that can keep people dancing all night. like i said, my knowledge is somewhat limited so i'm sure there's a lot of good stuff out there for you guys to show me!

oh and one other thing, i'm not really into trance or happy hardcore or things like that. nothing that sounRAB like cheesy rave music.

Just curious why you listed Pendulum, as they are mainly known for drum'n'bass (170+ BPM), but they did have a couple breakbeat (135~140 BPM) tunes on their album and have done work with the Freestylers. So if you liked their slower stuff, I'd recommend some breakbeat artists, but if it was the dnb they write, I'd recommend some others. Maybe check out Noisia's stuff on Division Recordings, they've done some breakbeat and electro-house ("Yellow Brick"!).

As far as the other artists you mentioned, maybe look at labels that release them or check out their own Dj mix set lists to see who they're playing. For the French guys (Justice, Daft Punk), look at the Ed Banger label, for German stuff like Digitalism and Boyz Noise, check out the Int't Deejay Gigolos label, and maybe Simian Mobile Disco too. Check out their myspace.com pages too, they'll often list similar artists in their top frienRAB. Blogs are good too, like discobelle.net (or .com I think) or Palms Out Sundays.

MSTRKRFT are one of my favorite Dj acts to see lately. Check out L.A. Riots too, same management agency.

TECHNO/ELECTRO CREW: get in here>>>>

+1

Stuff is mostly all Electro tho. You should check out actual House and Techno as well if you really wana diversify stuff that you might spin or play out. You would probably like Electro House the most.

I recommend a healthy dose of some John Dahlback, Thomas Gold, Robbie Rivera, and Laidback Luke to get you started. Heres some random Electro House tunes.

I have two great albums by Thumbtacksmoothie.

On the playlist is "dodgeball mentality", "chipple", "diminutive miniature tiny", "pupcin":

I've seen them both live, they put down a good set.

yup... there's a section of the documentary where if the camera moved just a smidge over to the left you could see me. They should've let the bus driver narrate throughout the film, that would be cool.
