Tech school or college?

Alright I've narrowed down my choices in schools. I can either go to technical school for a year and get a decent degree to make it easier to fund the rest of my college or go straight to college. But my real passion is psychology...not IT stuff. I'm a little worried that if I get sidetracked now I might never be able to get back to focusing on where I really want to go. After I get my BS I'm also gonna go for my doctorate and that's 8 years of schooling as it is. Should I really take that extra year and get some IT certifications? Or should I just focus on what I really want to do with my life?
Actually the technical school has an agreement with the college I'm planning on going to for credit to transfer. I'd get 32 credits if I complete the IT course.

Go to a college or a community college. Technical schools are ok if you're interested in cosmetology or auto tech or something like that...but many of those credits don't transfer to 4-year schools, so you'd be wasting your time if you wanted to go into a career in psychology. If you stay focused, the first four years will go by fast... Also, after you get a few of your psych courses out of the way, maybe you can apply to be a Teacher's or Instructional Assistant -- you get paid to help students with their courses, and get some networking and experience under your belt.

Hope this helps!
