tech idiot iphone 3gs 4.02?

Ok I have a iphone 3g2 with 4.0.2. Which I understand can now be jailbroken, but I don't understand can it be unlocked? Does it have to be jailbroken to be unlocked? Or can it not be unlocked at all? I purchased it in America but I live in China so clearly I'm not using AT&T. How do I go about any of this? Limera jailbreaks it correct? How do I unlock?
