TealBackup 1.04 Does great job . . .

I'm a jkware "CardBackup fan, and will continue to use CardBackup as primary system backup. I thought I'd offer a couple of hints on the new TealBackup, however . . .

I'm still trying to figure out (this is one of the few apps that's SO INTUITIVE you don't need the manual . . . or do you?!) if I can restore INDIVIDUAL files instead of the set.

I use CardBackup. tested with 2 hard resets, and trust it. HOWEVER, it won't encrypt the private files (spreadsheets & databases) that I "lock" with TealLock. In other words, what's the point of having TealLock if your backup card contains those same private files?!

TealBackup solves this.

Sheet2Go/Docs2Go "sheets" are VERY TRICKY to restore anyway -- if you don't restore the Docs2Go "sheet dbase." Docs2 Go does not "see" them, although they are in fact back in RAM. You have to restore them all at the same time, hopefully after having BACKED THEM UP all at the same time. TealBackup does this, and so a "total restore" puts everything back in the right order provided you've marked the right files to back up in the first place.

Still, it would be nice to be able to restore a single file (saved prefs, for example) without loading them all back in - I'll check some more and see if that is possible. The speed of backup is terrific considering they're being encrypted, and by setting to "modified file backup" that obviously saves time. The timed backups are great . . . but here's the COOLEST thing of all:

I had two folders for jkware's Cardbackup - one for 5AM and one for 5PM. I had to designate on MANUAL backup which folder I was sending stuff to. I have stuff in flash, but the 2 folders still totalled 9MB. I have now deleted one of those folders, and added 2 TealBackup "selected data" folders instead - savings: 4MB. The private stuff hs been removed from the Cardbackup "roster."

With TealBackup, I added a file to the "backup list" (removed it from the "exempt" list) . . and hit "backup." TEALBACKUP PUT THE FILE IN BOTH TEALBACK FOLDERS 1 and 2!!. Most excellent. If I left it solely up to "auto-backup," it would probably have selected "folder 1 OR folder 2" that I designated - but a manual back-up does BOTH. It put the file in both on the same backup "run." FANTASTIC!! This saves having perform the manual backup twice, as I did with jkware.

If anyone here knows about individual file restore, let me know. Until then I'm perfectly happy with it the way it is . . . for the "Docs2Go stipulations."

Excellent application - gives me a lot of peace of mind, and since I'm using it for private stuff only the two folders combined take up very little room. Most of you won't have that problem if you use TEALBACK exclusively . . . just go ahead and backup EVERYTHING, knowing you have the option of a SECOND FOLDER for added reliability.

I did notice that the "select all" and "select none" commands didn't quite work right on my T3 . . . but this is irrelevant since

A. I was choosing certain files manually anyway
B. The "default" is backup everything - you have to check files you DON'T want backed up. For most people, that'll work fine.

GREAT JOB if you ask me - there is an instruction before restoring to "disable hacks first;" later today I'll IGNORE THAT and do a hard reset (I might as well know!!) and append this post with the results on the restore process - in other words can you really trust it!!

We've had a lot of discussion on backup apps here and backup/SD Card vs Hotsync; thought I'd throw this information "into the mix" for those of you who contributed to those discussions.

I was reticent to do a forced restore if unnecessary, so didn't go "that far" in checking out the program.

However, after reading the MANUAL (??!!), you CAN restore individual files.

Yippee!! Even better.
