to know what you guys think? How do you help you students express their creativity.

By giving them lots of interesting choices to express it themselves.

For example, say I'm teaching The Giver and at the end of the book, which is pretty much an unresolved cliffhanger, I have my students do a writing assignment where they either finish the story OR make up an alternative ending. Instead of just assigning a paper, I also allow those students who are more visual to draw their ideas as a comic instead. Or, I allow a group of students to get together to film and act their alternate ending out. Or instead of writing an ending, they can write a song that is about the main character being sung many decades later (kind of like a folk song).

Basically, if you give the students choices, they can make up their own mind about what they want to do and hopefully they will choose the option that lets them express themselves the most creatively.

Peace,
Jenn
