Teach my Nintendog Backflip?

I was told that you can teach your nintendog 'backflip' by telling it to sit, then jump.
I have been trying this method for ages but he just gets up once he has been sitting, and performs the original trick 'jump' instead of doing a backflip.
Can someone help explain why my dog isn't performing this trick?
