Tampons affecting virgins?

Simply me

I used to wear pads. I wouldn't wear tampons because I was afraid too, but I hate pads. They feel like diapers, they make me feel really self-conscious, like everyone knows I'm on my period, and if you can't change them for a few hours, they stink and it's embarrassing. So this summer on vacation at the beach, I started my period and had to wear tampons. I liked how I did it and started to get over my fear, but they just don't feel right.
I've read the instructions a few times. I tried to angle it like it shows on the box, and I've even tried putting it straight up because angling it didn't feel right either. But neither way works. I put it in till my finger touches like the box says. But when I put it in, I have to put it in slow because it feels like it's poking something and it can be painful sometimes. But even when I put it as far as it goes, it's not right - it feels like it's about to fall out. Like it's not up there. And I was told that that was because I wasn't putting it far enough but I always have to push it up further with my finger, and it always feels like it's poking something, and then it feels like it's gonna fall out. Like, it stops feeling like it's poking once it's in, but every time I try to sit down or bend over, it feels like it's gonna fall out. It could be because I'm a virgin. ?
