Tallness

How can I grow taller? I am a 16 year old male, who is only 5'3. In the last three years I've only grown about 4.5 inches. Facial hair is starting to creep up on me. I already have a mustache and the makings of a beard are starting to form. I'm starting to worry now.

So the question is, without the use of chemicals like Human Growth Hormone, how can I grow taller?

It's so sad, my sister who is 12 is taller than me. :(

Once the growth plates in your legs have fused, there isn't much you can do. Your family doctor can do an easy check and tell you if that has happened. At sixteen you prpbably have a couple of years left before it happenes. But look at your dad and uncles and grandfathers. That is the best indication of what your best chances are.

My youngest son is my height-5'9". My oldest son is built just like my father and is 6'2".

And there are no exercises that will encourage growth in height....sorry.

What's a pediatrician? A family doctor?

My dad is 6 ft. My mom is 5'1 ft though.

And if it's genetically determined, why is my sister taller than me? She is younger than me by 3 years. She is in my immeadiate family, which means we share most of the same genes. The men in my family (uncles cousins etc.) have always been taller than the women.

Yet my height is certainly is below the norm range. I'm in the 3rd percentile. (Meaning that 97% of the people my age are taller than me. :(

A pediatrician is a doctor who treats children. A family doctor is one who is in general practice and doesn't specialize in children. What does whatever doctor you go to say? Have your parents asked him about this? Pediatrician's normally track this.

And girls generally grow quicker than boys. At 11 in the 6th grade, I was the tallest kid in the whole school at 5'2. At 63, I'm still 5'2! And my younger sister passed me and is 5'6. I take after my father's side of the family and she takes after our mother. It may be that you got more of your mother's genes for height. But your doctor should be the source for that sort of information.
