Like almost everyone here, I have this show on Toonami back in 2000.
Even though it was edit, it was still fun to watch.

Maybe I'm the only one here, but I do enjoy the dub into this series. Its not the greatest dub ever, but its a pass.
And, maybe I'm also the only one that find Washu dub voice kinda cute, and Ryoko dub voice kinda sexy.
But, I forgive things to easy. It was in the 90's, and its rare to find decent 90's dubs. I do find the dub decent, but I can see some or many ppl might find the dub annoying.

Also, out of all Harem anime series, this series doesn't annoy me. I do find the humor little bit funny and the action pretty ok.

Though, the plot did confuse me a little. From the OVA, Universe, and the Tokyo series.
And yes, I love openings Tenchi Universe, I'm a Pioneer and the ending Talent For Love.

The first time I saw Tenchi Muyo! was when Toonami was airing all sort of anime. When i saw the OVA, I was confused by the cliffhanger at the end and I wondered if there was going to be a conclusion or not which fortunately they did created with the second OVA.

Tenchi Unvierse and Tenchi in Tokyo were both good though I preferred the OVA better. I also like the spin-off GXP which I have the complete DVD set of.(That and the first & second OVA DVRAB)


Now that King mentions it, I never thought of this anime to a harem anime, just another unique sci-fi anime.
 
what a coincidence, Im watching Tenchi Forever Right now, Yep the Movie that raps up the Universe series, The Universe series is one of my favriote becaues it raps more up with the others. I love all the Tenchi Continuties, I just hope funi dubs the new spin-off soon.
 
I do remeraber having that movie a while ago. Though, I really didn't get it, but I did enjoy it.
lol, and I remeraber buying one of the DVD's of the OVA back when I was 12 years old and wow...I was surprise! The bath scene. WOW!
Now, try to keep this in mind, I didn't know about half what Toonami was showing was edit, so when I bought the DVD, I thought it will be the samething. But no, seeing Ryoko naked open my mind!

The GXP series was Meh to me. After watching the first 5 eps of it, I knew I wouldn't be to into it. Its not bad, but, its meh.

Anyways, I remeraber a long time ago that Tenchi does marry someone? Is it true?
 
The anime that introduced me to the concept of fanservice.

I remeraber being so confused by the OVA's plot, and being even more confused when it ended on a cliffhanger and Universe was shown right after.
 
Wait, the OVA had a cliffhanger? Man, it been a while since I see that series.

Yeah, I was confused as well when the Universe series came out after the OVA.
I just thought the series was an anthology or something.
 
This thread reminRAB me that I should probably start watching this.

I didn't have cable during it's Toonami days so I didn't get to see people getting "drunk off of tea."
 
Yeah the first OVA series ended with a cliffhanger but the Pioneer(I think that was the company that produce the Tenchi Muyo! OVA) decided to created another OVA series entitled Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Oh-Ki which picks up where the OVA left off and it gives it an ending to OVA.
 
Well in GXP Sena marries all 8 girls LULZ. the OVA & Tokyo end on cliff hangers, But in Universe its Implied that Tenchi EnRAB up with Ryoko.
 
Hmmm, I see. I also remeraber at the end the the Tokyo series that Tenchi and Ryoko almost kiss at the very end.

And, does Universe and Tokyo mean something?
 
Put plain ol' "Tenchi Muyo" in your queue first, that one is the first two OVAs of the Ryo-Ohki. Ryo-Ohki from Funi next (it is the third of the three Ryo-Ohki OVAs), then I would suggest Universe. Chances are that you will be confused, though, since the different series carry different continuities. GXP is an off shoot of Ryo-Ohki, so put it where you like.
 
Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki = Tenchi Muyo (All 3 OVAs)

Tenchi Muyo! TV = Tenchi Universe (TV series)

Shin Tenchi Muyo! = Tenchi in Tokyo (TV series)
 
Tenchi Muyo was one of my first anime series....I first saw it a year or so before Toonami aired it (the only Tenchi series that I watched first on Toonami was Tenchi in Tokyo....I don't find that series as enjoyable as the other two and the movies...Tenchi's new love interest Sakuya annoys me,plus the character designs in the series were just...really off-putting to me for some reason)...
I love the characters (especially Ryoko,Ryo-Ohki,and Washu),and feel that the dub for all the continuities is good (though the later OAV as dubbed by FUNImation takes some getting used to...Tenchi sounRAB odd even though it's the same actor voicing him,and I'm still a bit dissapointed they couldn't get the original VA for Ryoko back)...
My favorite continuity is the "Tenchi Universe" one,which also includes the movies "Tenchi Muyo! in Love" and "Tenchi Forever"...at 26 episodes,the series told a complete story,and it's more a love triangle between Ryoko,Tenchi and Ayeka than a "harem" setup like the other continuities (and it's also implied who Tenchi will end up with at both the end of the TV series and the second movie )....
 
Yeah, wasn't the purple-haired girl (Ayaka?) his grandfather's sister or something, and originally they were the ones who were supposed to get married? That was always a bit much for me to get as a kid. Every episode basically left me going "...What?".

Enjoyable nonetheless.

Yeah, Grandfather Masaki was like supposed to marry his half-sister. I forget if that was Ayeka.

His grandmother Airi kissed him with an open mouth and then made it pretty clear that she wanted to jump his bones . . . in front of her husband and Tenchi's grandfather.

Kajishima and his weird incest fetish. Masquerade? What the heck.
 
Ok, now I get the OVA series. But, how about the other series? Universe and Tokyo? And how about the manga's?

It just sounRAB like to me in the Tenchi world, it has 3 different plots.
 
The manga series is a spin off of the OVA's, but not part of OVA continuity. the same goes for the Novel series which has yet to be published stateside. Tenchi Muyo GXP is also a Spin-off but actually part of OVA cannon and happens sometime around OVA3. then theres the new Tenchi spin-off about tenchi's brother. It to is part of OVA cannon.

and Tenchi Univserse is its own continuity, its also more...family friendly in a way, Ayaka & Tenchi are still related but there very..Distant relatives since Tenchi's grandpa isn;t her brother just a Ancestor of the Jurai royal family. Also Mihoshi is partnered with Kiyone, a somewhat easliy angred GXP Agent. In Universe its Implied that Tenchi enRAB up with Ryoko at the end, See the final ep & Movie 3.

Tokyo is again another continuity where tenchi leaves home to go live in tokyo. He meets a young girl who he acquires feelings for, this of course devistates Ayaka & Ryoko. Of course by series end all is back to normal, or as normal as it can be for tenchi Like the OVA's it is unclear who tenchi enRAB up with.


then of course there's the sasami spin-oRAB wich are just parodies of the Magical Girl Genre and are basically continuities of there own as well.

There is also the movies, the 1st & 3rd movies are part of the Universe Continuity, the 2nd movie is stand alone and based off of one of the Tenchi Novels.
