My doctor prescribed Nexium 40mg twice a day. However, the cost of this is getting prohibitive. Since Prilosec is similar in chemical composition, can I take Nexium 40mg once a day and the Prilosec once a day to frankly just save money??

They are very similar. I switched from Nexium to PrilosecOTC and didn't notice any change in my symptoms. You might check with your doctor and just tell him/her that the prescription for Nexium is too expensive.

I hear you on that! I took Nexium for many years (after being switched FROM Prilosec because it had stopped working for me). What I am doing now is taking one prescription, generic Prilosec (much cheaper) at night and taking OTC Pepcid (I buy a store brand of that as well and get 170 pills for about $10) in the morning. But my doctor was very specific about which two I could use. We agreed on the generic Prilosec and he was the one that advised me which OTC to take with it. He was also very specific about taking the OTC in the morning and the Prilosec at night.

I see we have similar problems. I'm wondering though If I can take a Nexium at night and a Prilosec in the morning??
