We are going on a camping trip over in the Ozarks with our two kids. One is three and the other is 8 months old, the first time camping for both of the kids! We are planning on going a the river also on a raft, along with family and friends. My 3 year old has been on a canoe last year and loved it but I'm worried about taking my 8 month old? Has anyone ever taken a young one before? I'm not sure if it's really safe for her to go? I'm worried about her being in the sun for that long, she will have a hat on and lots of sunscreen but still? We are going on a nine mile one, is that too much for a little one? Please help!! We are planning on leaving in the morning. Should I just take her swimming instead of the rafting?

Thanks!!!

I would not take kids camping or rafting....Bugs....heat....no TV...sun burn...wild animals...coyotes.....etc.. On a raft would be a big no no....if its allowed.Suppose the kids go nuts??? You can't stop! What if the raft flips over??? Hats or not the reflection of sun off the water can still cause sun burn and lots of splashes will wash off sun screen.

Many boat trips I have taken do not allow small kids.

Good Luck and take a car trip to a cabin.

sorry, that's just too young to go rafting. Unless a child is capable of some basic swimming ability, they are too young.
Sunscreen, a hat, a safe bug spray (actually I use wipes for little ones and you can't put it on their hands or areas they may put in their mouth/eyes.)
Also, we always used a portable crib that had see thru mesh on the sides, and used mosquito netting to surround it to protect them from biting/stinging insects. do not place it flat on the ground, as ants etc will get in, we always used one that had legs on it that raised it a few inches. Also, shade is a must, as is extra fluids to prevent dehydration in one that small. Extra, Extra care and caution is called for with those little ones.
please be safe

The only way I would take the baby is if you buy her a swim outfit that has a life vest built in so if you would flip, fall in etc. she will float on top of the water. Also take an umbrella or a tarp and have her sit under it to also help protect her from the sun as well as the sunblock and sun hat.

i would not take the 8 month old on the raft there is a lot of things that could go wrong and become disastrous in just a matter of seconds. Your better off just sitting on the river bank with the small one. also 9 miles down river you will have a diaper or 2 to change while in the raft witch will not be fun for all in the raft do to you can not get rid of the dirty diapers.
