Take Off Bags When Washing Road King Classic?

When washing my Softail Custom, I spray the entire bike with S-100, and rinse away.

What do you guys with RKC leather bags do when washing the bike. Can these bags take a dose of S-100 and rinsing, or should they be removed each time I wash?

Thanks

I never wash my bags. I take them off, wipe them down with a damp rag and then once dry, use the conditioner that came with them from HD.

I'd take them off even if they were hard though. Can't clean that wide white wall easily with the bags in place and parts of the fender are covered. Those and the windscreen come off at every washing, as well as the Tour Pak I have, which gets the same leather treatment.

I remove the bags and windshield when I wash mine. Easier to get to the tires and wheels and it's easier to get the windshield cleaned when it's off.

Mine gets field stripped down to basic bike, wash all the nooks and crannies and then shammie and reassemble. Every few times I am in a hurry and just want the bugs off I do a quick hose/car wash spray clean then towel off but I hate the half assed look of almost clean.

I've seen a lot of Heritage Softail leather bags ruined by treating them to a bath like the rest of the bike. Take them off, and clean 'em separate like already mentioned.

I take them off every time I wash the bike, only takes a few minutes. Also, once a year I put some Doc Bailey's on them and they still look great.

My method is to remove the saddle bags, windshield, and seat for washing the bike. Without doing so, it makes it difficult to rinse out the areas by the pipes and rear wheel, as well as the chrome headlight surround and so on.
