T5 sync help

Hi,
I have a T5 and brought it home to sync up with my information on my home machine. It is a 98 machine and I have used a T3 with it. I suddenly found out that it will not sync correctly using the T3 desktop that I have and I must have XP to download the desktop for the T5. When I sync up it transfers the data fine but something happens and the data input area goes away, visually. It still functions. I can touch the pad and make thinks happen. I just can't see what. The hotsync also gives an error message on the computer and on the PDA. By the way the until appears to function fine on its on. I did a hard reset and everything I tried worked fine. I suppose I can just sync at the office where I have a new machine, but it is nice to have a desktop in both places. Is there anyway to hotsync with a T5 on a 98 machine or maybe it is not the problem I think it is.

Thanks

Since you could not the Palm Desktop for the T5 on the 98 machine. Did you use the same username for the two devices?

There is a file that is not part of the ROM on the T3 called appsliprotate and another called statusbarlib that are unique to the T3.

If these are making their way onto the T5 - poof the DIA (Dynamic Input Area - the correct name) will go bye bye.

Just be certain to remove those two files from the username backup folder on the 98 machine before syncing to avoid having them show up on the T5.

My real suggestion would be to copy the backup folder over your office machine to bring the info over to the T5 and not sync to the 98 machine.

The real issue with the 98 machine incompatibility is the drive mode and some tweaks to the PIM info - which are not compatible with a W98 machine so you'd be better off just syncing to the office machine and perhaps using a SD backup program for when you are out and about.

BTW: Palm has pulled the T5 from the list of available devices from the Palm store - so there will be something else coming - probably May.

I did use the desktop for the T3. However the T5 was at that time unassigned. I did a hard reset and it should have had no designation. What I wanted was a clone of the T3. I ended up with these two, both of which work fine and my wife decided she did not was either. Given her one was a thought. I planned to sell one of these. I was going to clone them and see which I really liked best if I was not going to keep one. It turns out I can use the T3 at either place but the T5 only at work it looks like. The flash drive would have been a handy thing to carry between the two machines.
