T3 dead. Then alive. Now dead again...

Friday night I entered a new event in the date book. A couple hours later I tried to turn it back on and enter another event, and it wouldn't turn on. I tried the reset pin. I tried the reset pin with the up button, I tried the reset pin with the power button. I even did the cradle reset which I read about on palm troubleshooting section. Nothing. I set the T3 in it's charger for the night, and the green LED was lit. no sound indication of it recognizing the cradle like it normally does.

Anyway, the next morning, it still didn't work, and I went about my day contemplating and researching my next handheld. I was literally ready to go out and buy a new Palm, and when I stopped by home to pick something up before I left, I thought I'd check the T3, and it worked!

Well, Sunday night, dead again. same problem.

Anyone ever heard of this happening? Why would a reset not work and it just start working again on it's own?

If this is just going to continue then I'll just go get a new one now, but if I can salvage this handheld, It'd be nice to save the money.

Thanks,
Sean

Nope. The only 3rd party software I use is Minder for my bank stuff, and I've used that program since back in the Palm III days with no problems.

a new handheld is kinda extreme... if the problem returns after a hard reset, though, then it's maybe time to try else where. but try hard-resetting and not restoring your data until you're sure it working fine, then you can narrow the problem down to software (most likely temporary problem, solved by the hard reset...

I had a sudden death on my Tungsten C like that. Actually I think my first Tungsten had a stuttering death like you describe. The replacement (under warranty) had a broken screen within a few weeks. I bought a used one on eBay, which had a spotty digitizer, but a few days ago it died suddenly. So, I'm like you, contemplating my next handheld. The Tungsten C is exactly what I need, but I'm thinking of crossing over to the TX because I'm afraid to trust the T|C.

You know, I went with a Lifedrive, the storage kind of sold me on it. After using it for a couple weeks now, I think I'd prefer a TX. The storage is nice, but you can slap a 1 or 2GB card in the TX and get the same result, sort of...

It's just too bulky and every action involves a little delay, including grafitti. It's really annoying. The power button is a pain in the butt too. I'm thinking I might sell it on ebay and go for the TX.

Good luck with your next handheld!

I have the same problem with my T3. I have unloaded all of the 3rd party software. All that was in there was the standard palm apps and virtually no data. After letting it sit for a while, the thing decides it doesn't want to turn on. I plug it up and try to do a reset -- nothing. I let it sit a while, then try the reset again and this time it's successful. Such symptoms indicate battery problems, but the charge level is above 80% in all cases. IS this a case of a weak battery? Can anyone shed light on this?

I sent my T3 to Cyber Test for diagnostics and possible repair. They said that the LCD and the motherboard needed to be replaced (>$300). I said I could buy a new Palm for that. Curious, though -- I have another T3 that was doing EXACTLY the same thing. Is this a design flaw?

The T3 was made in, I think, 3 different places. Mexico, Taiwan, and Hungary and the early ones were all from Hungary and these had more problems then the other manufacturing locations.

I'd say it was a QC issue and not a design flaw. I have one that was made in Taiwan that still going strong and it was exchanged early from a Hungary unit because of quality issues. It's now over over 2.5 years old.
