I have owned a Tungsten|E for some time and have recently acquired a new TX. I decided to jot down a number of observations I have made to see if anyone else here experiences the same.
The TX is faster than the E in most applications, but not all. For instance, the TX is quite slow to draw using Note Pad. If I draw a circle very quickly it will have at least one flat side. The E does not have that problem of slowness. Also, on the TX Note Pad the 5-way navigator buttons will not scroll the page as they do with the E. I find this to be a great oversight.
I also find the graffitti input to have a lag between finishing the letter and displaying it. I have heard that this is so the OS can decide for sure if you are done with the letter. My E is not like this and it's Graffiti accuracy does not seem to be any worse than that of the TX.
I also find the TX to be slower at responding to clicks of the Home icon in the Graffiti area. The E is much quicker.
The power button on top of the TX is very annoying how it requires multiple presses or slow presses in order to turn the TX ON or OFF.
On the TX I find the screen's touch sensitive surface to be very awkward to write on using the stylus. It is like writing with a rubber tipped pen on a rubber surface. It does not glide at all.
I assume that much of the sluggishness of the TX may be due to the fact it has to be moving applications in and out of its volatile RAM from its non-volatile RAM. If this is the reason, it seems like a very high price to pay just to keep from losing data in the event of a battery running down. Firstly, the PDA warns you when the battery is getting low and even turns OFF if it gets too low so you should not have to worry about losing any volatile RAM contents of a PDA such as the E. If you are still concerned, you can use an app such as BackupMan to backup your Palm automatically multiple times a day if required. An SD card is non-volatile.
The TX I got does not have as bright of a screen as my E. It has kind of a bluish hue to it and is not as intense as the E regardless of color. I wonder if some TXs have a screen made by a different manufacturer than others, since I read of so many people saying the screen of the TX is so "gorgeous".
I think that maybe I am just wondering if there are other TX owners who have found solutions to some of the annoyances of the TX.
