t-mobile vibrant without data plan?

im on t-mobile and i have a htc hd 2 without data plan and know i want a android phone is it possible for me to put my sim card in the phone and go through the set up with a google account and will t-mobile charge me for the data when i put my sim card in. im getting the phone off craigslist
