I currently have att and I have two lines with my 8800. My bill has slowly climbed to the 160 plus range so Im wanting to make the switch to tmobile. My question is about tmobile sim cards. Do they use sim cards? If so can I unlock my cingular branded 8800 and use it on tmobile? My 8800 is only a few months old so I really dont want to purchase a new one from tmobile. Thanks in advance

Yes tmobile uses sim,
yes you can unlock and use it on tmobile,
tmobile even has the 8800 so you can do an OS switch to tmobile after it's unlocked and u should have no problems getting browser, etc..

before you make the switch you should purchase a pay as you go phone from tmobile and just get 10 minutes of usage or whatever it comes with. Usually a phone with 10 minutes is 30.00
Check your coverage with Tmobile. Att will not let Tmobile use their towers except for 911. I live in newport news VA, and Tmobiles coverage is very scetchy around my area and would constantly lose coverage.

I was saying that before making a switch to Tmobile I would buy a 30 prepay phone from Tmobile and check their coverage where she is now using her ATT phone just to make sure she has the same coverage. When I had Tmobile my phones would always switch to ATT network due to poor Tmobile coverage but I could not use the phones except for 911 calls when it switched to ATT.

jpl572103 - It sounds like t-mobile did not have a roaming agreement with ATT in your area...

I have been enjoying TMO so far, since I can roam free (voice, but not data I don't think) on the ATT and many small town networks when I travel. When I visit West Texas my blackberry spends more time on Cingular and ATT towers than TMO...

ya tmo leases cinglular/att towers atleast in the seattle area..... and in the texas area when i lived there.

just go to t-mobile.com and click on the link check your coverage. it will give yuo a very accurate display of what to expect with reception. Every carrier has roaming agrements with each other but not in all areas. getting a t-mobile prepaid sim to test it ot would be a wate of time and money. just check the coverage, if you know anyoe with t-mobile in your area alk to them and stop by your localcorporate t-mobile store.
oh and btw when you do the personal coverage check it will show you if you are in a roaming area. just point your browser here --> http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~tmobile's network has been getting a lot stronger because they have been investing in coverage, not commercials...lol, but that's just what I've had drawn out to my from the big executives over at TMO corp. Some of the guys over there have showed me the test phones for the 3g dropping soon and it seems to be working really well. Just got my fingers crossed that they don't turn into sprint and start messing up my bill, lol

BTW, I don't know that ATT will give you an unlock code, but gsmphonesource.com has them for a reasonable deal if ATT wants to charge you more or refuses the code. No, I don't work for that web site, this isn't an ad, I just don't think that ATT will give you the code as easily as some other carriers (like TMO, who gives the codes for free)
