I'm coming to a month left on my 18 month contract with T-Mobile, which i pay £35 a month for and got given a Nokia N96 free with, which i have to add is one of the worst devices i have ever used.
One of my issues with the N96 was that it's basically unable to use the internet, or at least on T-Mobile it seems to be. Sadly this is something that after i'd signed up to the contract T-Mobile couldn't care less about.
Therefore, that considered, along with the fact that i would like an iPhone, i rung up T-Mobile to ask for a PAK code, explaining i'd like an iPhone (which i didn't think they offered) and that their internet service is abysmal.
To my surprise, the nice lady on the phone told me they do offer iPhones to valued customers (i feel privileged to be a valued, rather than unvalued customer). Saying that i could have one for £90 on a £35 per month, 24 month contract, offering 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet.
She also added that T-Mobile do not cap their internet use, whereas Orange and O2 do at 750mb and 1GB respectively. Additionally, she said she could bring my upgrade forward to today (it's due on 17th April) and overall was very determined/pushy to sell this package to me.
So, my questions are:
1. Is this a good deal on an iPhone? I've checked Orange and O2 and they seem to offer pretty much the same but with their internet use capped as mentioned. Is it feasible for me to push for a better deal and if so, how? 24 months is a long contract and i'd rather not pay the £90, could i get around these?
2. Will the iPhone work OK on T-Mobile? I wasn't aware they offered the device so am concerned about the device support offered for it on the network.
3. Will T-Mobile's internet service be better on an iPhone? As said, i can rarely connect at all on my N96 and it's horrifically slow that it's frankly unusable. I am aware that O2 have 'The Cloud' network and Orange use 'BT Openzone' for mobile internet, how do T-Mobile provide theirs? If the internet performance is not comparable to that on O2 i'm not interested really.
Conclusively, i seem to have been offered an iPhone a month earlier than i could get it on O2 and Orange (my current contract ends on 17th May) and the deal seems to be comparable, if not better when considering the un-capped internet use.
Any help appreciated on these queries.
