T-mobile/GSM: affordable slide-out QWERTY keyboard? G2? myTouch 3G?

Looking for an affordable GSM phone for use with a T-mobile prepaid plan (basically, no need for 3G). Predominantly using it for texting and WiFi, with occasional Gmail. Further, with T-mobile's acquisition by AT&T, I'm further not looking to spend more than necessary for basic features.

I'm considering a slightly used MyTouch 3G Slide at the moment at

This sounds like you can use anything from featurephones to Android sliders. The MyTouch Slide seems perfectly fine for your intentions. If you want to spend more, there is an upcoming Sidekick 4G but all depends on your budget.

I would prefer something more affordable if possible. The Mytouch 3G Slide is a bit pricey, I'd rather not pay for the HTC name if a more cost-effective option is out there with comparable features. Any other GSM Android sliders that folks recommend?

The Slide is an old phone and should be dirt cheap by now. If you got no problems with used phones, there is also the G1. I like the keyboard on the G1, its a perfect replica of the Sidekick keyboard, which Andy Rubin creator of Android also designed in his pre-Android days.
