T-mobile G1 with Google without internet?

i'm wondering if the T-mobile G1 phone is any good at all without the internet, i'm planning on getting one but i cant afford the internet on the phone, so i'm looking for owners who have the phone without internet or if you have any idea if the phone would be any good at all without the internet.
