T-mobile Data

I need your help everyone.

I gave my G1 to my gf today, and she doesn't have a data plan.
However, she had 3g, and was able to access websites.
Is this normal? Will she be charged by the Mb? Or is this a fluke and she's getting free data?

I wanted to check, so when i came home, i put my mom's sim card in my Vibrant, and her sim (no data plan) also was able to get 3g and internet.
This is strange to me. Any help would be helpful. Thank you

Assuming she wasn't using WiFi, then you'd have to check with your service provider.

Just because you don't have a data plan doesn't mean you can't access data. It just means you don't get it for free.

Before I got an Android phone I didn't have a data plan. My service provider charged ?1 for any day that I'd used any data at all, up to a maximum of ?7 in any month.

Other networks here charge by the KB or MB, and usually they're VERY high charges.

I'd check with your network provider ASAP to find out what the charges are.

Meanwhile, if you want to block all mobile data on the G1, then simply download (using WiFi) the app called APNDroid (or APN Droid, can't remember if it has a space or not). Run it, and it'll rename all the APNs so that they won't work unless you run the app again to rename them back.

awesome thanks.
I called T-mobile and they said if you don't have a data plan, you won't be charged for any data at all. They said it's a glitch in the system and if im getting data, it's free!!
I wrote down her name and id# just in case

That's just what I was thinking. But he did take the name of the person he spoke to. I'd have asked for a note to be put on my account too.

can you guys try test this?
take a sim card of someone u know what doesn't have data and put it in your phone and see if you get data.

to test it, i tried both my gf's and mom's sim cards (neither of them have data plan) and they both got 3g data. strange.

By "3G data", is it actually downloading stuff? It's just there's a difference between being connected to a 3G network (which is what the icon at the top of the phone indicates) and actually having access to a data connection on that network, such as being able to browse the internet.
