T-mobile cell phone question?

hey, so i want a new phone and my parents said that i could get one so i went to the store and i was gonna get the blackberry curve, but then they told us that you have to buy a $30 a month plan with it for wifi internet access and my parents will NOT pay that. I think it's a little rediculous myself as well.
any suggestions on a cool phone i could get, preferably not touch screen, that is nice looking but i don't need to get the data plan with?
