syncing with two laptops

I have a TX and would like to make it sync with 2 laptops. I use Outlook 2003 for tasks, contacts, calendar and email (versamail). Both laptops sync with my exchange server (not that I think that is relevant, but maybe?). I have loaded the palm software onto both laptops, and have been syncing to one of the laptops for months. I assume I use the same username on both for hot sync purposes? Anything else I need to know?

no responses to my other post, so tried to sync to new laptop. it all went pretty well, except no sync with tasks or contacts (the two most important applications). I'm getting the following message: "Please set the option "Enable Synchronization when Outlook is offline" in UI inorder to synchronize in Offline mode". What is UI, and what does this mean? thanks in advance

I merged these two threads:

User Interface =UI

There is a setting in Outlook that enables the device to work in offline mode (meaning that Outlook is not open). You can typically find this right off of the File menu -

Hi,

Just in case you still need help:

If you attempt to do a two-way synchronization with both computers, your data can become confused.

* On the laptop that provides true synchronization: Change the conduit settings for the Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes to Synchronize the files. This ensures that any changes you make will be reflected on your device.
* On the the other laptop that, change the conduit settings for the Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes to Handheld overwrites Desktop, and check the box for Set as default. This lets you keep a copy of your data on the second computer, but won't get confused if you try to synchronize with multiple PCs or Macs.

This arrangement lets you have your personal data copied to the second computer and also lets you install software from the second computer. Make data changes on the device when using the second computer; the data only travels to, not from it.

I hope this helps.

thank you to both of you. I haven't tried it yet, but its all pretty logical and I'm confident it'll work. Heather, one question. I assume I can set the second computer to do the opposite, set the hot sync to dekstop overwrites handheld instead of your recommend that I set it to handheld overwrites desktop? the second computer sits in my office during the day and i would typically make changes on the desktop all day and sync at the end of the day, with all changes on the desktop not the palm. the other computer is at home and i could make changes on either, so i'd use that one for normal reciprocal hot sync. again, thanks in advance for the help

You can even change this...but now it becomes a mental issue. You always want one Master PC and one Slave PC so that the data does not get duplicated.

I actually have my work laptop set up as "sync" and my home PC set up as a slave where by the Handheld overwrites the Desktop thus forcing myself to make changes on the handheld while strictly at home. However, I could change this setting in the following fashion:

Upon arrival at home from work hot sync with the setting set to Handheld over Desktop. Spend the weekend working on the home pc - then Monday before heading to the office change the hot sync to Desk over Hand and sync. Office laptop would then still maintain a sync mode and I'd sync upon arrival.

Then Monday night - sync again after working all day then at home I would then again set the home PC to Hand over Desk....otherwise I'll lose stuff and duplicate stuff. I've been doing basically that scenario for over a year now with no real issues.
