Synching is Weird: HELP

Ever since I got my T3, the synching has been weird to say the least:

For Address Book entries, when I make a change in either the Palm or in Outlook, instead of keeping the changed entry, the program copies both the old and modified entry to both platforms, making me manually delete one entry in each the Palm and my computer.

For MEMOs, it constantly considered the Memos on the Palm to be "new" and copies them to Outlook so I end up with multiple entries on both platforms. Sometimes I'll have as many as four copies of each Memo on each device. If I simply edit one Memo, it gets copies to both platforms along with the undedited version.

The Synch software (Palm software that came with the T3) considers it to be a "duplicate" and rather than looking for the most recent files, simply copies both.

Palm has been useless in resolving this issue. (It never happended with my Vx over three years.)

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS?

Have you gone to the PalmOne website and downloaded the PIM and Outlook conduit updates? The Outlook conduits that shipped with the T3 had some serious bugs.

Yes, I installed the updates but that didn't seem to cure anything. I'm still getting duplicate Address Book entries whenever I modify an address and almost all of my Memos have been duplicated once again.

Try there two things:

1. Go to the Dataviz website and make sure you have downloaded the latest Docs to Go update for the T3. There is a bug in the T3 version that not only causes fatal errors on finds but has also been implicated in dupes in the contacts and tasks apps.

2. Clean out your duplicates and then set the conduits for "desktop overwrites handheld". This should get the correct data on your T3 and reset the sync tasks so you don't get the dupes. Make sure your conduits are set to sync after you do the overwrite.

I've been using Docs to Go's latest version and have kept the software up to date prior to that. I've also used the "desktop overrights" strategy but that only last till the next Hot Synch.

Has anyone experienced the issue of "duplicate entries" where the software can't decide which is the most recent address (and the one to keep?)

As for the memo's duplication. I can't figure out why three or four of the memos appear immune to the problem.

Daniel,

At this point, I've advise yout take a good backup and then do a hard reset. It's possible that rhe OS itself is corrupt and a hard reset is the only way to cure it. Move your backup folder to a temporaty folder and then sync, whcih should restore only your PIM data. Use the T3 for a few days and see if the syuncing is now accurate. If so, I would delete the saved Preferences.prc file from your temp backup folder and then move the remaining contents back to your normal backup folder. Do another sync and that should restore your third party programs although it's still possible that a third party program like Docs to Go is the root of your problem.

You do realize, I assume, that making a change to the same address record on both the T3 and Outlook between syncing will always produce a duplicate record? The sync engine has no way to determine which changes are "right" so it will duplicate the record and then tell you in the log to delete the one you don't want. This doesn't address your memo issue but I wanted to mention this possibility for why you might be getting duplicate address records.
