Sync and SD Cards ??

I just got a SanDisk? Ultra II SD? Plus Memory Card, 2.0GB. I have a ScanDisk? 1.0GB. Card. I put movies, pics and music on the 2gb. and apps and games on the 1gb. How will HotSync handle this if I have a different card in the T|X each time I sync? The 2gb card in John1 and the 1gb card is John2. Is HotSync intelligent enough to catch the name difference and create new folders in the Backup folder or will it try to cram all content on each card?

Hot sync does not backup the contents of the SD card because it's considered removable data. The contents of the card are considered Static by hot sync. They only become dynamic if you are using another program, such as DTG, that has it's own conduit and each one of those programs would handle it with an error message requiring some manual intervention.

Hi Moose Man. Movies, pics and music are resynced if I delete them from the card. If I delete them from the card and the 665a folder they remain deleted otherwise if I delete from one and not the other they are put back to the location I did not delete them from.

Each card has a unique name. You can change that name prior to putting data/media on it by inserting the card into the device then tap card info, then menu and then Rename Card. Here is where you call it John2.

As soon as you hot sync - the Palm Desktop will sense that this is a different card and it will now show you a new Tab or Folder with the data that is contained on this card with the Tab name as the Card Name, typically. If you don't name the card then it will call it Expansion Card. It will keep adding cards as long as you do and it does not share this media until you tell it.

Media has it's own conduit and is dependent upon how you set it up. If you have the conduit set to sync and you delete a file from the Card - it should also delete it from the Palm Desktop upon next sync, which I just confirmed on a test.

But let me be clear on something - unless there is a conduit controlling the data - the contents of the SD card are not backedup. Sorry for that confusion.

But you should be able to add the second card with media controlling it so you don't get dupes unless something is a miss on you desktop.

Thanks Moose Man. It did create another folder for the second card. For the fun of it I tried to figure out how in named the folders. It used a strange combination of 4 letters and numbers. It didn't try to put all the media on the second card. FYI I cannot tell any difference in speed between the Ultra and regular card.
