Symbol for strength???

I'm going to be getting a new tattoo soon, but i just cant think of what to get. I was thinking of getting something to symbolise the ups and downs of my life, how over the years I've had misfortunes and had to start all over again, something to symbolise that I always manage to get back on my feet and back to financial/emotional stability. I would be gratefull for all ideas, it can be an animal (was thinking of a koi) or it could be a symbol of somesort im open to sugestions... Please help???!!!

tattoos are a no no =/
people that have them always tell me they regret it
and it's weird because they say that if you get one..you want more..
plus..it's like a fad..
i think you'll get tired of it..but if you really want it..
think about it thoroughly before you actually get it..
and remember that is going to be there FOREVER..and removing it is painful and your skin won't be the same...
And when you get older..it gets uglier
