Rather good news! After a very limited run in Los Angeles and New York City in 2008, the anime film Sword of the Stranger will be playing in theaters for one night on Thursday, February 5th of next year. This is a nationwide event, with over 360 locations screening the movie. Bandai is doing this through the company FCM Fathom, which has posted a convenient list of all participating theaters.

There will apparently be a behind-the-scenes featurette after the movie as well. Some details and a summary can be seen here. Story synopsis below:

And some details on the staff and cast, courtesy of ANN:

There's a theater showing this in DC, so I'm definitely going to go. I've heard good things about this movie, and I'm always interested to see a well polished animated work on the big screen. Kudos to Bandai for pulling this event off.

This is exciting news as I really loved the movie and I am stunned that we are getting the chance to see it on the big screen. The animation was great in this movie so I'm sure on the big screen it'll be even more impressive.

Just a warning to folks though, it's pretty heavy on the violence.

Ugh, no convenient airings for me. As curious as I am, I don't want to go all the way to Orlando just to see a movie I'll probably be the only one I know with interest in it.

Good for the rest of you, though.

Dang, there's a showing in town but I can't make it at that time because of practice. If it was later or on a Friday, I'd go, but as it stanRAB, just dang. Hope everyone else enjoys it.
