Swollen scrotum after abscess surgery

2 weeks ago I went to the emergency room because of swelling in my groin area.They had to do an emergency operation due to an abscess.They removed an abscess and tissue the size of a baseball.My scrotum is very swollen now but dont hurt.How long does it usually take for the swelling to go down? I'm on a liquid antibiotic IV along with oral antibiotics.
 
I work with diabetics and have been around this type of surgery alot. My husband who is also diabetic has had this proceedure done a four times. There is always some swelling but after two weeks the swelling should be gone or at least considerably smaller. Usually this wound is packed and left open to heal from the inside out. I have always been instructed to do the packing twice per day until it heals.

What type of wound care instructions did you receive? I am woundering if the swelling you are feeling is actually just the wound care gauze. If it isn't you might consider talking to your doctor about this.

That is the same procedure i'm going thru.A nurse comes to my home every other day to change my dressing.I had the operation on 8/20/10 and the swelling has gone down alot since then.I see my doctor on 9/15/10.
