Switching Numbers Between Motorola MOTO

So I bought new phones for my mom and I and I wanted to switch the numbers. The phone that she was going to have, I want and we made the numbers local. Now we would need to switch the numbers. How can we do this without having to pay $20 and bringing both phones into a verizon store? I don't have one near me and sending them to her would leave me without a phone for about a week.

Call *228 from the handset you want to activate on your number and follow the instructions to activate it on your line. Or, you can sign up to manage your account online and do the equipment swap there.
 
thank you for the help. i spent an hour on the phone with verizon tech support, and 4 people later, i switched the numbers. *228 wouldn't let me call out. it said that i didn't have this service on either of the phones. thanks for the info!
