Switching Doctors?

Hi everybody, I didn't know what fourm to put this in so sorry if this is the wrong one but I had a question about switching doctors. I want to switch to a different primary doctor, the one I have now is nice but I always feel rushed when I see her. I was wondering if anyone has ever switched primary doctors before? If so was it an easy transaction? Thanks!

I switched in August of this year. My old doctor is indeed very nice and is not one to rush to prescribe pills if a condition can be treated in a more conservative way, but he is very rough on female exams. The last Pap he gave me caused me to bleed and I was in pain for days.

I decided to try a naturopath and she was indeed more gentle. She had me fill out a form to obtain my medical records from the old doctor, so I did not even have to go back in there.

I do need to keep my ties to the clinic where my old doctor is for urgent care things, so I just merely keep them advised by telephone (I usually talk to his nurse and we get along great) as to what my new doctor is doing for me and what she finds out.

Relax. You will feel better going to someone you are more comfortable seeing.

Thanks so much for your help Lindaru! :) I'm glad you like your new doctor better. Did you have to call your old doctors office and tell them that you were switching?

My nurse was there at the time the old doctor did that examination that turned out to be so miserable. I talked to one of the office staff, giving her the name of the doctor I would be going to and when, telling her that that was why as well as the fact that I wanted to see a woman since at the time I believed I was still peri-menopausal (turned out I was post-menopausal) that she might be able to find ways for me to cope with the symptoms. I am sure my old doctor (who I actually have not spoken with directly since) would have understood when he found out.

I did tell her that in a way, the clinic would still have to work with me on any other urgent issues that came up but the naturopath was my new primary. When I called the old doctor's nurse to give her the results of my latest examination for my records, not only did she understand but wanted to know who she was as she is about my age and wanted to start seeing a naturopath herself!

If there is a regular assistant at your old doctor office, ask to speak to them. It is less intimidating than telling the old doctor yourself. Do not completely close yourself off in case you ever need to go back there but just let them know that you need another doctor to work on issues with a different view point.

Lindaru :)
