Swine Flu Shot

My 7 year old son and husband have asthma. The shots are starting next week here in Canada. My family dr said my son is high risk and said he neeRAB to get it. I was on the fence about the shot but I want to protect him from getting it. My other kiRAB and husband have been sick this week with fever, cough and headache. My husband was pretty sick too - sleeping almost 24 hours yesterday. I think it could be H1N1. My dr said it's safe to get the vaccine even if you don't know whether or not you've had the swine flu or not.

I'm going to take it. I have asthma and I am also allergic to a long list of antibiotics. Should I end up with an upper respiratory infection from H1N1 or the seasonal flu, it would be very touch and go as to what to give me and whether or not to hospitalize me while doing so. I don't feel I have another option so I'll take it.

Take it. From what I've heard from frienRAB and relatives who HAVE gotten the H1N1 flu, they've had the worst symptoms ever caused by an upper respiratory infection. Compared to influenza and bronchitis I've heard them say their lung BURNED, that it hurt deep deep down to cough and they dreaded another cough coming due to the anticipated pain. One said he pretty much slept 20 hours a day for 4 days, was feverish, headache...

As someone whose son and other relatives have lung issues, it scares the heck out of me.

There's a clinical trial underway to determine if asthmatics need a higher dosage of H1N1 vaccine to develop a full immune response to the virus (probably in the form of a second, and maybe even third, vaccination) because so many of the medications used to treat asthma can suppress immune functions at higher dosages.

If you're interested in getting the H1N1 vaccination you should probably go ahead and get it when it's available and wait to see if they recommend a second immunization for asthmatics.

I live in Australia I have asthma & i've had the Swine flu shot with no side effects had to sit in the waiting room for about 10 mins just incase had any effects from it then allowed to leave.
My husband has had the shot too.

It's free here in australia & thought why not better to be safe than sorry.

I even had the winter flu shot.

Cheers
