Swelling in lower back

Tomorrow is my second fusion, but within the last hour I started having really intense pain on the right side of my lower back and that side is puffy and swollen. I also have a lump or something on my spine around the L4-L5 area. This has never happened. I can barely walk. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Hi Meg,
Oh sweetie, big hugs to you! I have no idea what that might be. Make sure you tell the nurses as soon as they get you into the prep area tomorrow. They'll probably want to have the doctor come in and take a look before they go too far in prepping you. I hope it's nothing serious and that the surgery can still happen.

I just prayed for you. Remeraber, you have no control over this, so please try not to worry about it overnight. Whatever happens happens. When things don't go as planned, I remind myself that it might be that the Lord protected me from something by changing the direction things were going.

Hang in there, and please let us know what's up as soon as you get home, assuming that you're up to it.

Blessings,
Emily

Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery! Definitely let the prep nurse(s) know what you're experiencing.

You're in my thoughts.
